AN UNEXPECTED FORGIVENESS & OUR NEED OF IT
The idea of forgiveness is a complex reality for most people. We hear things like “we must learn to forgive those who have hurt us” or “the key to living life is learning to forgive yourself.” These statements are common in our world that lives to medicate the guilt and pain that pervades our souls with therapeutic experience. Yet, we should not so easily dismiss these ideas because they point to a deeper need that each of us knows exist: We need forgiveness.
Today as we study Jesus’ encounter with the paralytic, we will be forced to wrestle with 3 questions: 1.) What needs to be forgiven? 2.) What is forgiveness? 3.) Who offers forgiveness? We will see that our biggest challenges and needs are not always what we think them to be. When Jesus enters the equation, he shows us what our real need actually is and then meets it.
